West Palm Move replaced the downtown trolley in West Palm Beach: route, fares and hours

The short answer

Downtown West Palm Beach, Florida no longer runs a no-cost trolley. The City's West Palm Move replaced the RideWPB pilot, which ended May 31, 2026. The fixed route costs $1 and runs between the Norton Museum of Art and Northwood Village; on-demand rides cost $2 in the app; a trip using both is $2. Cash is not accepted.

Search for the West Palm Beach trolley and the results are mostly news stories from 2021 to 2023. The service those stories describe is gone. The City now runs West Palm Move, a fixed route plus on-demand rides operated with Via, and its own FAQ says the new service is separate from previous trolley operations. We read the City’s West Palm Move page and its launch announcement on October 20, 2026. This page explains what changed, how to ride and pay, and why some pages still describe the old trolley.

The short version, checked October 20, 2026

Fixed route: $1 a ride, Norton Museum of Art to Northwood Village, tap a card, phone or watch. On-demand: $2 in the app. Both on one trip: $2 flat. No cash. Accessible-vehicle requests and phone bookings: 561-264-0458.

What changed, and when

The City says the RideWPB pilot ended Sunday, May 31, 2026. West Palm Move fixed-route service began Tuesday, September 8, 2026, and on-demand service followed on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. By our count that leaves 99 days between the two, and the City pages we read do not describe any service in that window. On October 20, 2026 the fixed route had been running for 42 days.

The City describes the fleet as fully electric. Its FAQ names the vehicles: Karsan e-JESTs on the fixed route and VW ID. Buzz vans for on-demand trips. If you are looking for the red trolley in old photos, it is not coming back under that name, and the City is clear that West Palm Move is a new City service.

The fixed route: Norton Museum of Art to Northwood Village

The City says the fixed route runs north and south between the Norton Museum of Art and Northwood Village. Stops it names include downtown and Clematis, CityPlace, Palm Beach Atlantic University and Good Samaritan Medical Center. CityPlace describes itself as next to the Brightline station, so the CityPlace stop is the one to watch if you arrive by train. For what to do once you step off on Clematis, see our Clematis Street guide; for the museum at the south end, see arts and culture.

  • CityPlace's own site describes it as an experiential neighborhood in the heart of downtown West Palm Beach with a curated mix of more than 50 shops and restaurants, next to the Brightline station. CityPlace: About Us

How often it comes

The City gives two answers. Its launch release says every 8 to 10 minutes, while the West Palm Move FAQ says every 10 minutes. We have not seen a posted timetable, so plan on the longer figure. Our research log marks this conflict as not confirmed until the City publishes one number.

Hours

As the City lists them:

  • Fixed route, Monday to Friday: 6 AM to 9 PM (15 hours).
  • Fixed route, Saturday: 8 AM to 9 PM (13 hours).
  • Fixed route, Sunday: 8 AM to 8 PM (12 hours).
  • On-demand, daily: 6 AM to 10 PM, per the launch release.

That adds up to 100 fixed-route hours a week by our arithmetic. On weekday evenings the on-demand service runs one hour past the last fixed-route hour, which matters for Thursday concerts and late dinners. On Sundays the gap is two hours.

  • The City lists fixed-route hours as Monday to Friday 6:00am to 9:00pm, Saturday 8:00am to 9:00pm and Sunday 8:00am to 8:00pm. Its launch release lists on-demand service daily, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. City of West Palm Beach: West Palm Move

Fares and how to pay

  • Fixed route: $1 a ride, paid by tapping a card, phone or watch.
  • On-demand: $2 a ride, booked and paid in the app.
  • A trip that uses both: a flat $2, which by our arithmetic is $1 less than paying for each leg separately.
  • Cash: not accepted.

Riders who do not use a smartphone can book on-demand trips by phone at 561-264-0458, the same number the City gives for wheelchair-accessible vehicle requests. Pets that are not service animals may ride in an airline-approved carrier.

Why older pages still say the trolley is free

The trolley story lingers for three reasons we could document. First, the City’s own Directions and Parking page still says a no-cost trolley runs round trip from Clematis Street to CityPlace, using the district’s older name. The City’s West Palm Move pages contradict it, and we treat the Directions page line as stale. This is a gap record in our research, marked not confirmed until the City corrects the page.

  • The City's Directions and Parking page still says "a free trolley runs round-trip from Clematis Street to The Square." The City's West Palm Move pages say RideWPB ended May 31, 2026 and West Palm Move (a $1 fixed route) is separate from previous trolley operations. City of West Palm Beach: Directions and Parking

Second, travel guides that rank for downtown searches still promote a named no-cost trolley, even though WPTV reported the red trolleys being phased out from June 5, 2023. Third, a county tourism page snippet we saw still tells visitors a trolley links Clematis to the waterfront. None of these is a current City source. When a page and the City disagree, go with the City’s West Palm Move page.

One more name you may see: Brightline’s station page mentions Circuit electric shuttles at the station. We could not confirm Circuit’s current service area, hours or price on a City or operator page, so we do not list it as a way to get around.

  • Brightline says its West Palm Beach station is within walking distance of top downtown destinations and offers Circuit electric shuttles (hailed in the Circuit app) and BrightBike rentals at the station. Brightline: West Palm Beach Train Station
  • The Norton and Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens pages mention a free Circuit shuttle, and Tri-Rail's station page mentions a Rose Trolley on-demand app. No City or operator page was read to confirm current service areas, hours or price. Norton Museum of Art: Plan Your Visit

Using it with a train or a car

Brightline lists its West Palm Beach station at 260 Quadrille Plaza Drive and calls it walking distance from downtown. Tri-Rail lists its West Palm Beach Station at 203 South Tamarind Avenue, with free parking for the commuting public. The City does not name the Tri-Rail station as a West Palm Move stop on the pages we read, so check the app for the nearest pickup. Train details are on our getting here page.

  • Brightline lists its West Palm Beach Station at 260 Quadrille Plaza Drive, West Palm Beach, FL 33401, open Monday to Sunday from 5:20 AM to the last train departure. Brightline: West Palm Beach Train Station

If you drive in and switch to the fixed route, City garages charge $1 for the first two hours on weekdays, then $2 for each extra half hour up to $20 a day, and $5 all day on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, special events excluded, as the City’s Rates and Payment page puts it. Our parking page compares every garage by destination.
